Alvin Youngblood Hart (Gregory Edward Hart) (b. 1963) multi-instrumentalist

Another of the new generation of younger black urban bluesmen, Alvin Hart was born in Oakland, California, but his musical roots were nurtured during trips to his grandparents and relatives in Carroll County, Mississippi.
His uncle played guitar and his grandmother was a piano player. When his family moved to Schaumberg, Illinois, Hart took to hang- ing out at the Sunday market on Chicago’s Maxwell Street, where he encountered many blues artists.
In 1986 he served in the Coast Guard, first in Natchez, Mississippi, and later was stationed in Berkeley, California. Opening for TAJ MAHAL in  Oakland, California, created opportunities for Alvin, and he got a management deal and a recording contract.
Hart plays six- and 12-STRING GUITAR, banjo, and tenor guitar, specializing in Delta blues but includ- ing influences from black string band music.
