In 2011, the Londoners called their first album WHAT DO YOU EXPECT FROM THE VACCINES? There were many possible answers to this question, but you wouldn't necessarily expect the band to still be around 13 years later and releasing their sixth album. In the beginning, The Vaccines seemed more like a cool quick fix than a perennial favourite; it was hard to imagine that many years later this group would still be playing "Post Break-Up Sex", their big hit from their debut album. But they do. What's more, all the songs on PICK-UP FULL OF PINK CARNATIONS could have been on the debut.

Hooks and hooks, plus nervous guitars and drums as well as Justin Young's voice, which sounds dark and defiant, giving it a distanced coolness. This uniformity is not a bad thing: after a good 30 minutes, the record is over, you feel well entertained, and "Discount De Kooning (Last One Standing)", inspired by the debate about what discounts are possible if you buy the works of Dutch artist Willem de Kooning with a total value in the three-digit million range as a bundle at auction, remains particularly memorable. Young's suggestion: don't think about it for long, just keep dancing.
