The album was publicly stated to be a soul fans' all time favourite when it was released on 1969, and that fact alone will demand attention from many. Doris was working with producer/writer Jerry Williams (aka Swamp Dogg), who had produced fine soulful tracks.
The album is
arguably at its best with the mid-tempo tracks, though there are faster cuts like
Congratulations Baby.
The Feeling Is
Right is a delight with its prominent bass and descending piano lines, and I Don’t Care Anymore uses delicate guitar lines and wonderful vocals to help build a great track.
Doris’ singing is
immaculate and emotional throughout, making this one of the key soul issues ever released.
