Jon Anderson will be 80 in October, but his instantly recognizable alto tenor remains in fine fettle. He first teamed with versatile covers-act The Band Geeks to tour Yes classics in 2023, and now comes their original- material debut True, a work so gob-smackingly Yes-like that the absence of Roger Dean cover art seems an oversight.
The Geeks' MD Richie Castellano has been a vital member of Blue Oyster Cult in recent years, and he and his bandmates prove similarly efficacious here on True Messenger, Shine On and Once Upon A Dream.
It's one thing to recreate Yes classics perfectly; quite another to write new material that isn't dwarfed by the group's back catalogue. That said, this would be a whole other beast without Anderson. It's the combination of his unique lyrical voice and songwriting flair which makes True pukka.
