Jack White's ire with the Trump administration has reached new levels of epic fury in recent months. The Iran war, a golden statue honouring the US president, verbal attacks on the Pope, they've all got the guitar virtuoso's goat. So it's no surprise that White's new album finds him playing angry, lyrically and musically. "It must be nice to decide between spreading truth or lies", he spits on the garage-rock stomping I Can't Believe What I’m Hearing, while the blues-hammering Dollar Bill suggests a subtle dig at Trump's desire to put his own signature on the US currency.
Much like 2024's No Name, Frozen Charlotte is a satisfying listen but not quite as easy on the ear. At times White's driving rage forfeits the music. But you can't blame him for standing up to an administration mired in corruption and lies. For that he should be saluted.
