One of the great stalwarts of American folk song, Collins had helped bring to wider attention some of the most important songwriters of the era, including Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, Malvina Reynolds and Gordon Lightfoot. Her profile was high and In my Life continued the pattern in slightly more ambitious and sophisticated style. Arranger Joshua Rifkin added colour and texture, as she added the music of Bertolt Brecht, Jacques Brel, Randy Newman and The Beatles to the folk canon.
