 Poetry with a punch

These American lo-fi rockers are comprised of singer-guitarist John Damielle and a revolving cast around him. They have been at it for almost 30 years, their hypnotic, country-flecked sound somewhere between the Feelies and our own modern-day Curse Of Lono.

Here, Damielle reunites with chums after far too long watching a lockdown menu of violent movies for a swiftly-recorded set with numbers such as Need More Bandages, the title track and the ebullient chant of Wage Wars, Get Rich, Die Handsome. It’s snappy, tuneful guitar rock, the occasional plaintive drone of a stray sax, with pop-friendly vocals that can even transform the songs Hostages and Make You Suffer. And for all the Tarantino-esque imagery, there’s a poetic edge to the lyrics that turns everything on Bleed Out on its head.
