Lenny Kravitz spent lockdown on a creative hot streak in the Bahamas. He re-emerged from his tropical paradise with enough for four potential albums, including this double. His first release in six years corrals every facet of what turned past records, including 1993's Are You Gonna Go My Way, into multiplatinum hits.
There's a lightness to some of it, especially the charming Honey, and Human, which hitches its self-empowerment lyric ("I'm gonna live my truth in this life...") to the sweetest pop melody. Elsewhere, though, Kravitz plays to the gallery with TK421's hefty James Brown-meets-Prince funk rock and Paralyzed's nod to Led Zeppelin's When The Levee Breaks. These and It's Just Another Fine Day (In This Universe Of Love) - surely the most Lenny Kravitz title ever - best demonstrate his knack for sprinkling self-help-speak and catwalk glamour on his classic rock and soul. On Blue Electric Light, he hasn't lost his touch.
