Indie heroes rediscover their
Golden Touch
Planet Nowhere is the first album by the classic Razorlight lineup in 16 years. And they’ve evolved a little, taking on a new wave-inspired direction, updating the Patti Smith/ Television vibe with touches of burbling synths. Hardcore fans don’t fret though, as Johnny Borrell's beat-poetry vocal riffing and raw tinny guitar ground us firmly on Planet Razorlight.
Naturally, Borrell’s divisive charismatic swagger wafts through everything (check out the meta posturing of the hilariously-titled Taylor Swift = US Soft Propaganda and the Stonesy swing in the coda of U Can Call Me).
There’s a funkier touch this time around though - Dirty Luck could even be MMMBop’s edgier big brother. Tracks like the clipped, infectious Zombie Love and strutting, preening Cool People show that their ability to write catchy hooks with a sharp edge remains undimmed.
