Μulti-lingual French-Spanish troubadour returns after a 17-year hiatus with irresistibly infectious LP.

Born in Paris to parents who fled Spain in the early 1960s to escape persecution from General Franco’s fascist regime, Chao started as a busker on the City Of Light’s streets. After receiving recognition in the popular late-’80s band Mano Negra, he went solo in 1998 with the platinum-selling Clandestino, a landmark album in Gallic rock.
Viva Tu (“Long May You Live”) is Chao’s first studio outing since 2007 and shows he hasn’t lost the knack for marrying accessible melodies with vivid storytelling, wry humour and subversive lyrics.
Creating a polyglot mash-up of styles best described as world fusion, Chao’s topics include nature’s healing power (Coração No Mar), human avarice (La Colilla), and community spirit (Viva Tu).
Willie Nelson makes a surprise cameo on the raucous Heaven’s Bad Day while Parisian singer Laeti’s alluring vocals light up the catchy Tu Te Vas.
