"There is no trace of me anywhere/No sign of me being here", sings Bjørn Riis on Gone, the lead track from this live recording of his European tour last year.

And even if him performing these lines under a stage spotlight suggests he's done anything but disappear from public view, his compelling voice quickly allows us to suspend any disbelief.

That song is even more immersive in this setting than it was opening last year's studio album Fimbulvinter, and a propulsive reading of 2017 track Getaway follows, maintaining the feeling that we are now in Riis's world, and external considerations need not apply.

Where Are You Now?, another older number, feels almost like a response track to Gone, as if written by someone responding to being ghosted, soundtracked only by acoustic guitar and wistful piano.

As intimate as this can all sound, Fimbulvinter is title track benefits from broader sonic vistas, opening with heavy riffing before falling away to soft electric piano passages, then rebuilding to an epic denouement with angelic choirs backing a climactic pomp rock crescendo. A journey in over just four tracks? It certainly feels that way.
