Jagger the youngest has long been a champion of the finest good-time, cajun-tinged roots rock, unburdened by the shadow of his brother’s band. This album is his first outing for seven years and is the sonic equivalent of a great Saturday night out, kicking off with Anyone Seen My Heart’s ska blended with horn-drenched jazzy party vibes. In fact, there's a jazz feel throughout, spearheaded by guitar work from Soft Machine’s John Etheridge, but it never takes over.
Jagger’s musical compadre (and album producer) is former Slim Chance fiddler/accordionist Charlie Hart - Loves’ Horn is not far off a gunfighter ballad, filled with squeezebox.
There’s also long-time Bryan Ferry guitarist Neil Hubbard and Wilko Johnson drummer Dylan Howe but Jagger’s ebullient presence and commanding vocals are central, not least the wistful Hey Brother with its eye on the past.
