America's Pavlov's Dog first impacted with 1973's Pampered Menial, an idiosyncratic take on the prog idiom. Critical acclaim for them was never matched by commercial success, and many previous members have not just departed the band but also this earth. However, they abide, fronted by founder member and vocalist David Surkamp.
Anyway There's Snow is typical in its wistful weave of acoustic piano, guitar, violin and vulnerable lyrics. Another Blood Moon has the air of a nocturnal country serenade, tinged with sadness - 'Don't go down by the river any more.'
Collingwood Hotel bears faint intimations of mid-70s Bob Dylan circa Desire, Calling Sigfried is jazz inflected, cumulatively charismatic, and I Wait For You showcases Surkamp's peculiarly tremulous vocal.
Wonderlust is unlikely to win Pavlov's Dog a great many new fans, but it will greatly please the existing faithful.
